Although many nibble them off during flowering, they should be retained as far as possible by bending them away to a position where they do not obscure the rest of the plant rather than removing them altogether. The medicinal value of the bracts is limited, and they are therefore most often discarded. However, there may be some crystals on them, and in these cases it may make sense to dry and store them.
