Royal Gorilla: RQS works its magic with the legendary Gorilla Glue

Royal Gorilla is undoubtedly one of the most talked about cannabis strains to come out of the US in a long time, and the strain has quickly made a name for itself as a connoisseur favourite in the States. However, the discovery of the plant was entirely accidental.

Two US growers, Joesy Whales and Lone Watie, discovered the variety after Joesy’s Chem Sis plants accidentally pollinated his Sour Dubb. We don’t know exactly what made Lonie keep some of the seeds when Joesy threw the variety away, but what we do know is that he later sowed them – perhaps just out of curiosity, and what shot up from the ground was none other than the spectacular Royal Gorilla!

Genetics and strength

The two passionate cannabis cultivators knew immediately that they had created something truly special and were wildly impressed by the results of their first THC measurements. As if a staggering 24-26% THC measurement wasn’t high enough, some of the plant’s phenos are said to have contained an incredible 30% – THC levels that until then had never been measured in any strain before.

As for Gorilla Glue’s name, the official story here is that they chose the name because of the tribe’s insane resin production, which caused the two growers to stick to everything after handling their innovation. But given the strain’s super-relaxing effect, Royal Gorilla might also be a perfectly apt name to describe its deeply relaxing bias that “glues you” to your sofa, though the high also comes with an uplifting euphoria – making its effect delightfully balanced.

Yield and growth

Royal Gorilla is not necessarily a variety you would choose for its yield, which is actually quite moderate – the focus here is on the quality of the top shoots, rather than the quantity. You can grow Royal Gorilla indoors or outdoors, where it will grow massive top shoots that have wonderful lime green leaves. Thanks to the plant’s strong resin production, its leaves will be covered with an abundance of trichomes that glisten beautifully in the sun!

Effects

Some Royal Gorilla plants have an average THC content of 24-26%, but some phenotypes have the ability to exceed this when grown with expertise. The plant induces a very potent effect that is incredibly relaxing – excellent for relaxation and stress relief.

What makes Royal Gorilla’s high so special, however, is that this relaxing effect is balanced with an uplifting and happy state. Its potency also makes Royal Gorilla a good variety for medical users who want a strong herb to help manage their symptoms.

A balanced 50% Indica/Sativa hybrid, Royal Gorilla has lovely excellent earthy and sweet notes, complemented nicely with additional notes of lemon and pine. It makes for a tasty smoke that won’t disappoint even the most discerning cannabis connoisseur.

The variety has already won several awards such as. Cannabis Cup 2014 and World Cannabis Cup 2015, where it won first place in the Best Hybrid category.
