      Cannabis seeds

Are you interested in cannabis seeds? Then you’ve come to the right place. On this page we have gathered all relevant information about cannabis seeds, so whether you are interested in buying, want to know more about the legislation or want general information about cannabis seeds, you will find it here.

      What is cannabis?

Cannabis is a hemp plant that can be used to make several types of intoxicants. This means that cannabis is the parent strain, which can be used to make, for example, hashish, pot, skunk and cannabis oil.

In Denmark we tend to call all kinds of cannabis seeds skunk seeds, even though it is not true. Skunk, on the other hand, is a popular strain of cannabis that can be traced back to the 1970s, when it was first developed.

You can read more about the difference between cannabis and skunk here.

Are cannabis seeds legal in Denmark?

There are many who are in doubt about whether cannabis seeds are legal in Denmark or not. The short answer to the question is yes, cannabis seeds are legal in Denmark.

But it’s an answer that requires an explanation. In Danish legislation, the cannabis plant is included in List A of the “Statutory Order on Euphoriant Substances”. This means that cannabis is a controlled substance, which is illegal to possess without permission from the state.

      The definition of cannabis is:

“Cannabis” (meaning all above-ground parts of plants of the genus Cannabis from which the resin has not been removed. However, the fruits of the hemp plant (hemp seeds) and hemp embryos in isolated state are excluded.”

However, this definition means that cannabis seeds and hemp (taver=fiber) are exempt and perfectly legal to buy, sell and possess. It only becomes illegal in the aboveground parts, so it is only at seed germination that it becomes a Schedule A substance.

      Buy medical cannabis seeds

Cannabis as medicine has a long history. In fact, cannabis has been used and cultivated for its therapeutic properties since Neolithic times, and many still find cannabis relevant as medicine today.

In principle, all cannabis can be used as medicine, but at Nordland Seeds you’ll find a whole category of cannabis that is specifically aimed at people who have therapeutic purposes for it. It is particularly cannabis seeds with a high proportion of CBD that fall into the medical category. CBD is strongly antipsychotic and muscle relaxant, whereas THC has a psychoactive effect. This is why cannabis with a high CBD content is best suited for medical purposes, as CBD also counteracts THC.

Is medical cannabis legal in Denmark?

An experimental scheme has made medical cannabis legal in Denmark, as long as you have a prescription from a doctor and subsequently get it dispensed at a pharmacy.

Even if you have a prescription from your doctor, it is still not legal to grow your own medical cannabis, which many people in need of medical cannabis see as a problem. There are only a few cannabis strains in the trial, and it can be difficult to buy exactly the cannabis strain and cannabinoid profile you need for medical reasons.

      Cannabis seeds in Denmark

Cannabis has always been grown, but it was professionalised in the 1970s in the Netherlands, when people travelled the world collecting seeds. In many ways, the Netherlands became a cannabis capital. Networks of buying and selling were formed, and various seed banks emerged.

Some of these seed banks still exist and are therefore many years old, but more and more are being added all the time.

At Nordland Seeds we sell a large selection of cannabis from various seed banks around the world. If you’re interested in something Danish, we also have our own range of seeds, called Nordland Seeds.

      Cannabis cultivation

Not all varieties of cannabis are the same, and it is important to understand each variety if you want to be successful. For example, there is a big difference between choosing an autoflowering or photoperiodic variety.

Below we will briefly review the basic factors you need to be aware of during cultivation.

Whether you grow cannabis seeds indoors or outdoors, it’s important that they get the right amount of light, water and fresh air.

      Lots of light

Cannabis seeds need light for healthy growth. In fact, the more light, the better, as more light helps the plant produce more buds.

If you grow outside, natural daylight is enough, but if you grow indoors, aim for 400-600 watts (or more) per square metre.

      Make sure not to overwater

When we grow plants, we often tend to water them frequently to give them the best growing conditions. But with the cannabis plant, be careful not to water too often and too much. There is a high risk that the plant will die if you overwater it.

Therefore, it is a good idea to wait until the soil has dried out before watering your plant. If the top centimetres of soil seem a little damp, wait until the soil is completely dry before watering.

      Fresh air inside and out

The fresh air comes naturally if you grow outdoors. However, you need to pay attention to proper air circulation if you grow indoors. Invest in a suitable ventilation system or fans to make sure your plants get the fresh air they need.

If you don’t have an indoor or outdoor area to grow cannabis, you can look into guerrilla cultivation, which is growing cannabis outdoors in a hidden location.
